Chinmaya Mission Singapore conducts weekly Bal Vihar classes for children aged 8–10-year-olds spanning a duration of 60-90 minutes. These classes are conducted at the centre and at volunteer teacher’s homes.

Bal Vihar classes provide a perfect platform for children living away from homeland to become aware and understand our rich culture, heritage and spiritual knowledge & way of living in turn providing a strong foundation at emotional, intellectual and spiritual level.

The topic this year for 8-10 age group is about ‘Symbolism in Hinduism’ explaining the meaning /symbolism behind the various deities, their vehicles, their manifestations and the auspicious days.  We encounter symbolism everywhere – in our scriptures, in our celebrations and festivals, in the way we live. Symbolism has a language of its own and  is meant to make one think, to ask questions. Why do we celebrate our festivals the way we do? Why are Hindu gods multi-armed, each one specific and distinct from the other? What is the significance of their individual vehicles and the weapons they carry?

These classes are taught in a fun filled way through chanting, bhajans, stories and games. In addition, festival celebrations give the children an opportunity to stay connected with their roots and take pride in our rituals.
